Design 4 - Designers

Welcome

Design companies come in all shapes and sizes, and they all promise to listen and produce work that will promote your individual/company's style and branding. At design4 we promise you the same level of professionalism and commitment, with the added extra of being not only ethical, but environmentally friendly.

As designers, we all try and make a claim to be different and encourage our clients to participate in the design process. But, here at design4, we also involve our suppliers as well as clients to support the environment.

Design4 believes that businesses and organisations can benefit from taking an environmentally responsible approach to design4 print and the web. Using environmentally-sound materials and printing methods gives promotional materials an aesthetic advantage in an already saturated market, as well as helping to conserve the planet's limited resources and reduce pollution.

Process

We will manage and deliver on all types of projects, but emphasise the use of environmentally-sound process in at least two major areas:

Paper Manufacture:

Standard paper manufacture uses large amounts of virgin plant fibre, energy and water, and causes pollution. Good environmental choices are recycled and uncoated papers with a high post-consumer content.

Inks:

Conventional printing ink is petroleum-based and mixes with alcohol-based solvents to release VOCs into the atmosphere. VOCs are hazardous to the environment and to human health. Vegetable and soya based inks offer a non-polluting and renewable alternative.

How Design4 achieves:

Under the strong, creative leadership of founder, Paul Hayler; Design4 uses a pool of resources of many other designers to form a collaboration of talent from all over the UK.

Environmental standards among printing companies vary enormously. Design4 reduces negative environmental impacts by selecting printing companies with environmental management systems
(such as ISO14001) which offer environmentally-sound printing and finishing methods.

Design4 designers also only use energy-efficient equipment, paying special attention to design hours 'plugged-in' and being responsible in their studio environment. The designers are also very conscious of carbon penalty of using certain processes and travel miles that add to climate change.
